New Year

Well, Christmas is over.

I had a wonderful time seeing friends and family during the season, but on Tuesday the new year will begin and it’s time to start taking down decorations and putting away all the holiday stuff.

It’s hard to believe how quickly 2018 has gone by. I guess it’s true that time flies when you’re having fun.

I’m not one for making New Year resolutions because I always forget them before much of a year has passed. But I do plan to finish unpacking in my new home (I moved about two months ago.) and to do more writing. I’m also planning to attend two writers’ conferences.

What are you planning for 2019?

Christmas Preparations

Well, I already got all the gifts bought and wrapped and sent out lots of cards, but there’s still preparation to do for guests and travel.

I stopped by a store today for something I’d forgotten and it was absolutely mobbed! I felt sorry for the checkers and other staff who are working their tails off, but they were all cheerful and friendly.

I think this season tends to bring out the best in people (and let’s not mention the exceptions.)

I can hardly wait to see more of my family members.

I hope everyone who reads this will get to spend time with people they love during the next few days.

Merry Christmas!!

Christmas Errors

I love seeing Christmas pageants and cards showing illustrations of the Nativity, but most of them are just, plain, inaccurate.

In the first place, the Holy family were all middle Easterners with tan skin and dark brown hair.

Mary couldn’t have been wearing a blue robe, because blue dye was expensive and only wealthy people could afford it.

The manger wasn’t a tiny box to hold the baby. Mary had to lie down in the manger to give birth to her baby, so it would have been big.

And the wise men from the East didn’t come to the stable, but to the house where the family was staying. I guess after paying their taxes most people had gone home, so there was room for the family to find housing until Mary was recovered enough to go home.

Of course she went to Egypt instead, but that’s another story.

But I still enjoy seeing the pageants, especially when performed by kids, and the lovely cards..

Apology

I'm embarrassed not to have posted anything on my blog for several weeks. Between moving, holiday preparation and events, and dealing with major technical problems I just couldn't find the time.

But I'm back now, and hope to be consistent about blogging twice a week, as usual.

Thanks for understanding.
