Christmas Shopping

Stores are getting full of Christmas stuff, and there will be even more once Halloween is over. I saw some Christmas things in stores as early as September this year.
Back in the olden days when I was young, Christmas cards, decorations, gift wrap, etc. didn’t show up in stores until after Thanksgiving.
I’ve heard a lot of people complain that the holiday marketing starts so early, but I have a confession to make: I usually start my Christmas shopping when I see things people I love might want on sale in August.
Gifts are a way of showing love, and doing that is very important to me, especially for people I seldom see, like relatives who live far away. I hope I can continue giving them gifts for Christmas as long as I live.
And I understand that retail businesses make a lot of their income by sales at the end of the year. Everyone in our society needs money to survive, so that’s not an evil thing.
But I still wish pre-Christmas were not such a commercial time of the year.

When do you do your holiday shopping?

Angels?

I wonder why and when people got the idea that angels are ladies in white dresses who sit on clouds and play harps.
Of course white symbolizes purity and in ancient times men wore robes, which are sort of like long dresses. And I guess back when people thought the Earth was flat it was logical to think Heaven was in the sky just above the clouds.
Some people might have thought harps were the most beautiful instrument of those available back then.
But they must have known the Bible described angels as mighty warriors who frightened people when they appeared. They certainly weren’t pretty ladies.
And cherubim, otherwise called cherubs, were certainly not cute little babies.

Can anyone tell me where those ideas originated?

I'm Back!

I had changed to WordPress for blogging, but realized I much prefer BlogSpot, so I'll be posting here again.

GoodBye

I haven't been using this blog in a long time because I had some technical problems and all reply messages from Blogger.com kept being sent to g-mail accounts I couldn't connect to with my computer.

I finally gave up trying to get tech support help and signed up for a WordPress blog. I have been using it ever since. Those posts are linked to my website, www.janetanncollins.com.

However I wish I'd stayed with BlogSpot because I'm getting lots of spam messages and would have to pay extra to have those screened out. And the page doesn't look as good as the Blogger one.
But I've signed a contract with WordPress and can't get out of it.

Please go to my webpage, www.janetanncollins.com to see my newer blog posts.

Thanks.
